AUDITIONS ARE ON JUNE 9th. Go to our AUDITIONS PAGE to find out all the details
What is the Stage 2 program? The Stage 2 program was created for our teens who feel like they are getting to old to be in our ‘kid’ shows but to young to be anything but ‘ensemble’ in our adult shows. In other words: They are in the SECOND STAGE of their acting career and so we’ve created a program wherein they share the stage with their peer group.
Does the Stage 2 program only do workshops? No. We also do summer drama camps and for the first time in 2013 we will be holding AUDITIONS this show that will be play July 12th through 28th on the GORGEOUS Lawrence Welk Resort Stage in Escondido. Every actor in San Diego County should have a theater credit on their resume from the Welk Theater because production companies across the country know the reputation of this wonderful theater.
So, you provide Workshops and Drama Camps. What makes them different from a regular show? When anyone auditions for a show they take a chance they won’t get in. But with our Stage 2 workshops and drama camps you are AUTOMATICALLY in the show once you are signed up. Why do we do this? Because many teens feel that they 'shine' when they audition because of nerves. 90% of the kids we talk to say nervousness is the main reason they feel they're not getting cast. And if your not getting cast, how can you become a better performer? It’s a terrible catch 22. We take the nervousness out of the performing process so the actor can get down to the business of perfecting their craft and building their confidence
Do the actors get to be in a show or is the Workshop and Drama Camp merely classes? Every workshop and drama camp stages a production at the end of the session. We teach the actors about the stage by PUTTING THEM ON THE STAGE from day one. We audition the actors the first day, (after teaching them a song - if the show is musical), and then we cast the show. By the end of the first class the actors leave knowing their role and they have their script in hand. Here’s how the program works:When most theater companies do workshops or camps, the actors never see the stage or show their work at the end of the session.
How many days do the workshops and camps meet? We do no more than 12 rehearsals for ANY workshop or drama camp. That’s right...12! Mom and Dad you will no longer spend months and months hauling the actor to and from rehearsals because, (on the average), As you are probably painfully aware, most companies have between 25 and 40 rehearsals. We think that’s too many. The actors love Stage 2 because it allows them to perform while still allowing them to keep up with school and other activities. Stage 2 parents LOVE it because it doesn’t monopolize the family’s lives.
It sounds like fun! It is. But don't mis-understand, the teen MUST BE WILLING TO WORK and STRETCH THEMSELVES as a performer. This is what separates the STAGE 2 concept from our youth companies: A more intensive, professional rehearsal process. Performers who are there to 'socialize' will be removed from the STAGE 2 workshop or camp.
What is the enrollment fee and are there any other hidden fees I should know about? The participation fee for our Stage 2 workshop is $100.00 and the two week summer drama camp is $240.00. This fee is non-refundable after the first day of class. Also, every participant is required to sell 10 tickets to the show they are in. Ticket prices vary from workshop to drama camp. Once a workshop or camp is posted on this page, ticket price information will be included. Actors are responsible for providing footwear, tights, leggings, socks, and in some instances clothes from their closet. ALL major costuming and wigs are taken care of by us.
Where do the Stage 2 actors performer their show? ALL performances of main stage shows; workshop or camp shows will be presented on either the BEAUTIFUL Broadway Theater Stage, Our intimate Off Broadway Theater Stage; The 382 seat - City of Vista owned - AVO Playhouse; the versatile Hearth Theater Stage in San Marcos and beginning in 2013 the nationally known Lawrence Welk Resort Theater stage.
How do I sign my teen up for a STAGE 2 Performance Show, Workshop or Drama Camp? You can register by phone at (760) 728-1002 seven days a week - between 10 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. or do it online by clicking HERE. |
