Randall Hickman and Douglas Davis Owners of

Vista’s Broadway Theaters; Premiere for Kids and Premiere Productions

Randall and Doug have been San Diego residents for 23 years and have starred on most of the county’s stages including the Lawrence Welk Resort and Moonlight Amphitheatre. Their acting awards and nominations include, Dramalogue, Patte, Aubrey, San Diego Critics, Stage Scene L.A., C.A.S.T. and Robbi awards. Most recently the duo was nominated for the prestigious San Diego Critics Award for their performances in Moonlight Amphitheater’s 2011 production of HAIRSPRAY.  In 1992 the duo created their youth company, PREMIERE FOR KIDS and in 1996 they added the adult company; PREMIERE PRODUCTIONS.  Twenty-one years later they are thrilled to see so many of their former students performing all over the world, and being featured regularly in TV and film roles.  With two successful companies up and running, Hickman and Davis decided it was time to have a ‘home base’ that their adult company could call home.  So, in June of 2004, the duo opened their first theater, THE BROADWAY. In September of 2007 they opened their second theater - the youth theater - THE OFF BROADWAY.  In the short time the two theaters have been in operation, critics have embraced the stages with awards and accolades, including the KGTV A-LIST AWARD for BEST THEATER IN SAN DIEGO for 2007, 2008, and 2012. While awards are nice, it’s the support of the theater-going-public the duo owe their biggest thanks. At a time when theaters are closing all over the country THE BROADWAY and OFF BROADWAY THEATERS enjoy a 95.7% sell-out ratio.  Never one to sit on their laurels, in March of 2012, the duo embarked on a new theatrical journey:  Producing a mini-season of shows at the LAWRENCE WELK RESORT THEATER in Escondido, Ca.

Katie Gonzales - Manager, The Broadway Theater:  Katie has been managing the Broadway Theater for six years. She started as a student with Premiere for Kids and made her BROADWAY THEATER acting debut on the Broadway stage in our 2007 production of Blithe Spirit and then again as the ‘no nonsense secretary’ in Moonlight and Magnolia’s.   Katie’s youth theater directing credits include; 101 Dalmatians, Cinderella; If the shoe fits and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Off-Broadway Theater.

Myles Vencill - Manager, at the Welk Resort:  A recent graduate from San Francisco State, Myles returns to Southern California.  Before he left for school, he managed our Youth Theater for two years, (2007 –2009), and played a major role in its construction.  Myles will manage our adult company, Premiere Productions, whenever we are in the WELK or AVO Theaters. An accomplished actor and director, his credits include; The Barber of Seville, High Fidelity-the Musical, The Wizard of Oz, Once Upon a Mattress, Sideways, Stop Kiss, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and 101 Dalmatians.

Text Box: No other theater company does as many workshops and shows per year as we do. In 2012 we staged 43 events and we do it with a handful of staff.
What? That’s MADNESS! How is this possible?
Well, over the years we have learned the importance of ‘streamlining’ and ‘consolidation’ while still keeping our quality high. When a theater has a huge staff, they have to pay them. Where does the money to pay them come from? Government grants, loans, tickets sales. A lot of small theater companies like ours have to charge more to see a show because they have more overhead. We have found over the years that we can keep our shows affordable by doing one simple thing - hiring talented people who are well versed in more than one aspect of putting up a show. In other words: My staff, (my family), are multi-tasking wizards and I want you to meet them.
